A New Yorker who knows they are safe to take an evening stroll in their neighborhood alone or host a picnic with their family and friends in the park.

On Tax Day earlier this year, I promised that we would tax the rich, and with our new pied-à-terre tax, that is exactly what we have done.

We are proud of the fact that we are a sanctuary city.

I view ICE actions to be cruel and inhumane.

At a moment when working people are being pushed out of the city they built, New York cannot afford half-measures or delays. We are setting the most ambitious housing production and preservation targets in the city's modern history – and backing them up with investments to match.

My fellow New Yorkers, today begins a new era. I stand before you, moved by the privilege of taking this sacred oath. But I do not stand alone. I stand beside you.

I cannot blame anyone who has come to question the role of government, whose faith in democracy has been eroded by decades of apathy. We will restore that path by walking a different path. One where government is no longer solely the final recourse for those struggling. One where excellence is no longer the exception.

So standing together with the wind of purpose at our backs, we will do something that New Yorkers will do better than anyone else: we will set an example for the world. The work continues. The work endures. The work, my friends, has just begun.
